Venezuela's daily bread: grilled corn cakes, crispy outside and tender inside, stuffed with shredded beef or cheese.

  • Harina de maíz precocida
    300g
  • Agua tibia
    400ml
  • Carne de res mechada
    400g
  • Cebolla
    1 unidad
  • Pimiento
    1 unidad
  • Tomate
    2 unidades
  • Queso blanco rallado
    150g
  • Sal
    al gusto

    Mix precooked corn flour with water and salt.

    Let rest 5 minutes.

    Form balls and flatten into 1 cm discs.

    Cook on griddle or pan 5 minutes per side.

    Finish in oven at 180°C for 10 minutes.

    Prepare shredded beef filling.

    Sauté onion, pepper, and tomato.

    Shred beef and mix with vegetables.

    Slice arepas in half.

    Stuff generously and serve.
